Back To Basics: Why A Solid Foundation Is an Essential Part of Wellness

Have you ever downloaded a new app and skipped through the tutorial? Think about all of the times in life you’ve hit the “Next, Next, Next” button just so you can skip over the basics.

You already know the basics.

You don’t have time to go through this again. If you just fast forward to the ‘important part’, you’ll find value and meaning.

Bad Habits Build Unstable Foundations

We’re probably all guilty of skipping something important because we’re either bored, impatient or simply just feeling entitled. Sometimes this type of arrogant thinking can get in the way of success and personal happiness in life.

The problem is, when you’re always looking for the next best thing, it’s easy to overlook the basics of your wellbeing. When you neglect your wellness, emotions, and abilities, you are creating a shaky foundation.

Each time you skip over the fundamentals of wellness, you’re pulling a block away from your foundation…literally! The more blocks you pull, the more unstable your foundation becomes. Then one day, when the last block is finally pulled, your building shakes and topples over.

Why?

Because a solid foundation always matters.

Steps To Help Stabilize Your Foundation

The good news is you can always revisit and repair your foundation. Whether you’ve lost a few blocks along the way, or you’re foundation has completely crumbled, these steps can help get you rebuild your inner self.

1. Assess your needs vs. wants. When you always want “more, more, more”,

it’s easy to lose sight of what really matters for you health and happiness. Forget about

material things and possessions and focus on the things you really need in life- things

like adequate sleep, proper nutrition, healthy relationships, and great self-care.

2. Examine you relationships. Healthy and nurturing relationships are key

when it comes to stabilizing your foundation. How is your support system? Do you have

toxic and one-sided relationships in your life that are weighing you down and tottering

your foundation?

3. Make yourself a priority. When building a solid, stable foundation, it’s

important to make yourself a priority! Carve out a little time each day to take care of

yourself physically and mentally. Remember that self-care is not selfish, it’s essential!
